What you need and what CueRemote does

  • A Mac with QLab 5, an open workspace and OSC access enabled.
  • iOS: iPhone or iPad with iOS/iPadOS 17.6 or later. Android (in preparation): phone or tablet with Android 8.0 or later.
  • A trusted network that allows communication between the device and the Mac. QLab and the Mac are not included.
  • A workspace passcode with View and Control permissions. CueRemote does not need Edit permission.

CueRemote is free, with no in-app purchases, subscription, ads or account. The QLab passcode belongs to the workspace; it is not a CueRemote account. From version 1.1 the interface is available in English and Spanish and follows the device language.

It is a remote, not an editor or a player. CueRemote does not create, edit or delete cues and does not play audio files. Programming, files and show playback stay in QLab, on the Mac.

Preparing the connection

  1. Open a rehearsal workspace in QLab 5. In its network settings, enable OSC access and check the Mac’s address and the configured port.
  2. Put both devices on a network that allows local communication. Guest networks can isolate them even on the same Wi-Fi. Do not expose OSC access to the Internet to solve a connection problem.
  3. On iOS, allow local network access when asked; entering an IP address by hand does not avoid that permission. On Android, grant the local network permission if the system asks. Also check any restrictions on the Mac and the router.
  4. Select the discovered machine or enter its address and port, choose the workspace and use the passcode authorised for View and Control.
  5. Check the connection indicator, the selected list and the playhead. Choosing a list in CueRemote switches QLab to it and GO fires the list you see; before GO, still confirm in QLab which cue is prepared.
  6. Rehearse GO, STOP, pause/resume, list selection, carts and network loss/recovery with direct access to the Mac. Check the real result, not just the remote’s indicator.

Commands and the passcode are sent over OSC/TCP without TLS. Use only a trusted network. Storing an encrypted credential does not encrypt that transport. Control between CueRemote and the Mac does not need Internet access; opening this website or using store services are separate operations.

If it doesn’t connect or update

  • Check that QLab is still open and that the right workspace allows OSC access. Verify the current address and port; they can change when you change networks.
  • If discovery fails, check the permissions and try the manual connection details. Do not disable the firewall indiscriminately: review the rules with whoever manages the network.
  • If you can check but not operate, review the passcode’s Control permission. If the workspace rejects it, check the credential on the Mac without sending it to support.
  • If the connection drops, do not take the last visible list as up-to-date state. Restore the connection and verify workspace, list and playhead before sending new commands.
  • Do not repeat GO blindly after a slow response: first check in QLab what has run. Keep access to the Mac and an alternative way of operating.

Disconnecting the remote is not a STOP command for the show on the Mac. Check the recovery in QLab before operating from CueRemote again. Build or simulator tests do not replace rehearsing with the network and devices of the actual setup.

Asking for help without sharing secrets

Write to developer@unquinto.es with the minimum necessary details:

  • CueRemote, platform, version/build, device model and system version.
  • QLab and macOS versions; Wi-Fi/Ethernet connection and whether you use discovery or manual entry.
  • Steps to reproduce the problem, expected result, actual result and the exact error message.
  • If it helps, a screenshot or a minimal example of a rehearsal workspace, reviewed before sending.

Do not send passcodes, passwords, signing keys or unnecessary production data. Hide names, network addresses or other identifying details that are not needed. Do not attach audio files or third-party material you cannot share. If your question is about deleting connections or credentials, give the platform and build, never the credential itself.

See CueRemote privacy for information on local data, system backups and support communications.
